Guide: 24 Hour LAX Layover

3/3/2017

We planned a layover in LAX because the flights to Asia were so much cheaper from here. We booked an Airbnb near Marina del Rey for the night and used Uber to get around during our stay. After landing we took a 15 minute Uber from the airport to our neighborhood in Marina del Rey to drop off our bags.

1. Lunch in Santa Monica

We hopped in an Uber for a 15 mintue ride to have lunch at Blue Plate Taco, an semi-upscale Mexican restaurant. The outdoor patio is a great place to get quickly acquainted with sunny Southern California.

2. Coffee break

If your coming from the east coast, at this point in the early afternoon you are going to need some caffeine. We walked from lunch to nearby Espresso Cielo for some coffee, but there are plenty of options in the area. We ordered coffee to go and walked toward the famous Santa Monica pier.

3. Walk the pier and beach

There aren't many more photogenic American landmarks than the Santa Monica pier. Spend some time relaxing and snapping photos of the beach, ferris wheel, and roller coaster. Then stroll south along the beach for some great people watching.

4. Grab a beer (or two)

Library Ale House is about a mile south of the pier. They have a great variety of beers on draft to quench your thirst after a long walk. Plus happy hour is from 3-6pm with select beers half off.

5. Dinner!

Take an Uber back to SUGARFISH in Marina del Rey. We think its some of the best sushi you will ever have. There is a set menu called the "Trust Me", so if like us you aren't sushi experts, we promise you will be in  good hands.
We really enjoyed walking around the Santa Monica and Marina del Ray areas. There are lots of things to see and it gave us a chance to stretch our legs before our 15 hour flight to Asia. We can't wait to come back for longer and see what else the area has to offer!
